Jones, Larry Dewayne

Larry Dewayne Jones, 84, of Shipshewana (district: 46-1), died at 9:00 pm on Tuesday, December 20, [2022] at his residence in Shipshewana. He was born on November 22, 1938, in Shipshewana, to Levi and Mandy (Gingerich) Jones. On June 9, 1960, in Shipshewana he married Mary Bontrager, she survives.
Survivors in addition to his wife are three sons, David (Katie) Jones of Ligonier, John (Leona) Jones of Millersburg, Daniel (Norma) Jones of Nappanee; five daughters, Martha (Josey) Otto of Plains, MT, Ruth (James) Slabaugh of Nappanee, Mary (Samuel) Riehl of LaGrange, Barbara (Devon) Hochstetler of Shipshewana, Christina (Larry) Yoder of Shipshewana; 40 grandchildren; two step grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; five brothers, Levi Jr. (Janet) Jones, Lynn (Jill) Jones, Winford Jones, Kenneth (Vera) Jones, Jacob (Loretta) Jones; five sisters, Marylou (Dale) Mast, Elsie (Alvin) Miller, Rebecca (Mervin) Byler, Ruth (Dewayne) Miller, Linda (Ernest) Lehman; brother-in-law, Josey Bontrager.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Joseph Jones; two brothers, Paul and John Jones; sister, Judith Bontrager; sister-in-law, Ulonda Jones.
Larry was a farmer and a member of the Old Order Amish Church.
Visitation will be after 2:00 pm on Thursday, December 22, and all-day Friday, December 23 at the Stephen Raber residence, 5980 W. 200 N. Shipshewana. Funeral services will be at 9:30 am on Saturday, December 24, at the same residence. Services will be conducted by Bishop Lyle Beechy, Pastor Merlin Miller, and the home ministers. Burial will be in East Barren Cemetery, Shipshewana. Miller-Stewart Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Jones, Ulonda Sue Mishler
July 18, 1950 - July 10, 2022
Ulonda Sue Jones, 71, of LaGrange, died peacefully at home, on Sunday evening, July 10, with family surrounding her. She was born on July 18, 1950 in Goshen, to Stanley and Norma (Yoder) Mishler.
On October 12, 1968, at Emma Mennonite Church, she married Winford Jones, he survives. Together they were blessed with three children, Matthew (Amy) Jones of LaGrange, Heather (Jason) Streeval of Johnson City, TN, and Nathan (Alisha) Jones of Middlebury.
Surviving in addition to her children are 10 grandchildren, Mandy (Jake) Stone, Madison (Taylor) Raatz, Mason (Morgan Sanchez-fiancée) Jones, Matthew Jones, Gracie, Bella, and Levi Streeval, Emelia, Sawyer, and Oliver Jones. Great-grandchildren are Reagan and Barrett Stone. Also surviving is a sister, Jan (Dale) Schrock of Goshen, and a brother, Mike (Rhonda) Mishler of Rockwall, TX and a sister-in-law, Nellie (Byron) Hooley of Ft. Wayne.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Karen Sowers.
Ulonda was a member of Emma Church and had served as Sunday School and Bible School teacher, song leader and sang with the church choir. She also served with the church visitation team. Ulonda dealt courageously with multiple sclerosis for 42 years. Despite her condition, which gradually limited her physical abilities, she was able to raise a family, participate in various church activities, and work part-time with her husband at Yoder's Shipshewana Hardware. She loved to cook, sew, garden, sing, shop, and travel. Ulonda's warm smile and friendly disposition, despite the limitations placed on her by multiple sclerosis, made her an inspiration to family and friends.
Visitation will be from 1:00 - 7:00 pm on Wednesday, July 13, at Emma Church in Topeka. There will also be one hour of visitation prior to the 10:00 am funeral service on Thursday, July 14, also at Emma Church. Services will be conducted by Pastor Gene Hartman. Burial will be in Shore Cemetery, Shipshewana. Memorials may be given to Center for Hospice Care.
Judy, Harold Otho
July 7, 1936 - December 30, 2022
Harold Otho Judy, 86, formerly of Millersburg, passed away Friday, December 30, 2022, at Greencroft Healthcare.
He was born July 7, 1936 in Pendleton County, West Virginia, to Kile and Mary (Riggleman) Judy.
On March 18, 1962, he married Janet I. Yoder in Middlebury. She died April 28, 2019.
Survivors include a daughter, Annette (David) Boys of Goshen; a son, Gregory (Amy) Judy of Millersburg; four grandchildren, Heather (Jared) Gibbens and Sara, Kile and Emily Judy; four great-grandchildren and a sister, Maggie Hartman of Franklin, West Virginia.
He did two years of 1-W service in Norristown, Pennsylvania.
Mr. Judy drove truck for Zook/AG Trucking until his retirement in 1999. A member of the Carriage Travel Club, he served as a director after his retirement.
Visitation will be Wednesday, January 4, 2023, from 4 to 7 p.m. and from 9 a.m. until the 10 a.m. funeral service Thursday, January 5, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. Pastor Joe Miller, Maple City Chapel, will officiate.
Burial will follow in Brown Cemetery, Millersburg.
Memorial donations may be given to Alzheimer & Dementia Services of Northern Indiana.
Kauffman, Carl B.
April 22, 1956 - March 18, 2022
Carl B. Kauffman, 66, formerly of Bird in Hand, PA, passed away at home on Friday, March 18, 2022. He was born in Lancaster County to the late Raymond S. Kauffman and Minerva (Belier) Kauffman and was the husband of Judy (Martin) Kauffman. Heeding the call of God, he moved to Hampton, CT, where he was part of the Believer's Mennonite Church of Hampton.
Carl is survived by three sons, Albert Kauffman, Marcus Kauffman, and Wendell Kauffman, three daughters Carla (Kauffman) Leinbach, wife of Wilford Leinbach, Alice (Kauffman) Mast, wife of Leon Mast, Sabrina Kauffman, and three grandchildren.
He is survived by his mother and siblings, Norman Kauffman, husband of Wanda (Chupp) Kauffman, Rachel (Kauffman) Stoltzfus, wife of Jon Stoltzfus, Harlen Kauffman, husband of Esther (Eichorn) Kauffman, Nathan Kauffman, husband of Jane (Kauffman) Kauffman, Susan (Kauffman) Raber, married to Jonathon Raber. He is preceded in death by his father, Raymond S. Kauffman and a sister, Pauline Ramos.
The viewing will be held on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, from 1-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, March 23, 2022, at 11 a.m. with a public viewing from 10:15-10:45 a.m. The viewing and funeral will be held at the Christian Fellowship Church, 140 Pudding Hill Rd., Hampton, CT 06247.
Kauffman, Carol Ruth Skrivseth

Carol Ruth (Skrivseth) Kauffman of Boyceville, WI passed away suddenly from heart complications on Thursday, May 26, 2022 en route to the hospital.
Carol was born on September 26, 1945 in Graceton, MN to the late Bendick and Christiana (Halverson) Skrivseth. She committed her life to Christ at 10 years old and was baptized at Graceton Mennonite Church.
Carol married Amos Kauffman from Sheldon, WI on October 4, 1968. Together they raised a family of eight children on the Big Jump Farm. She enjoyed her family, her flowers, and watching birds. Writing was also important to her, especially the story of how her family found God and the church.
Carol is survived by her husband, Amos Kauffman of Boyceville, WI; eight children; Michelle (William) Martens of Culver, OR, Chad, Wade, Geneva; Jolynn (Ted) Swartzendruber of Boyceville, WI, Brittney, great-granddaughter- Mariam, Jaremy, Christina, Jeffery; Phil (Carla Zehr) Kauffman of Madras, OR, Dustin (Allison), Heather, Jennifer, Matthew; Curt (Evelyn Troyer) Kauffman of Aroda, VA, Miranda, Kate; Del (Anya Reinford) Kauffman of Boyceville, WI, Marianna, Clyde, Thane, Clay, Thad, Joel, Jayce; Carrie Kauffman of Fairfield, MT; Mart (Kathy Eveleth) Kauffman of Power, MT, Staci, Holly Lexi; Lyndon Kauffman of Fairfield, MT.
Other survivors include her 5 siblings, Norma Ash of Bay Tree, Alberta, Sidney (Ruth Kauffman) of Bonners Ferry, ID, Jo Ellen (John) Weaver of Conrath, WI, Rhoda (Nelson) Martin of Glen Flora, WI and Leah (Dave) Darnell of Duluth, MN.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by two brothers, Philip Skrivseth, Arnold Skrivseth and one sister Sharon Martin.

Kauffman, LeAnna Miller

LeAnna Kauffman, 82, of Middlebury (district: 67-2 ), died at 1:37 pm, on Sunday, September 11, at her daughter’s residence in Millersburg. She was born on February 24, 1940, in LaGrange County to Chris J.M. and Abbie (Lehman) Miller. On March 26, 1959, in Shipshewana she married Marion M. Kauffman, he died April 24, 2020.
Surviving are a son, Marvin (Loranna) Kauffman of Middlebury; a daughter, Elaine (Phil) Gingerich of Millersburg; a daughter-in-law, Josephine Kauffman of Crofton, KY; 17 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; a brother, John Miller of Goshen; three sisters, Wilma Mast of Goshen, Mary Ellen (David) Beachy of Middlebury, and Esther Louise Miller of Bolivar, MO.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, DeWayne Kauffman; four brothers, Elmer, Obie, Omer and Chris Miller; two sisters, Ida Mae Mast and Katie Miller.
LeAnna was a homemaker and member of the Old Order Amish Church.
Visitation will be after 1:30 pm on Monday, September 12, and all day Tuesday, September 13, at the Steve Kauffman residence, 13586 County Rd. 28 Middlebury. Funeral services will be at 9:30 am on Wednesday September 14, at the same residence. Services will be conducted by Bishop Rudy Bontrager and the home ministers of her church. Burial will be in Miller 8 Square Cemetery, Goshen.

Lisa Ann (Plank) Kauffman, 33, of Arthur, Illinois passed away at 7:40 A.M. Pacific Time on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, at the Rubio Cancer Clinic in Tijuana, Mexico.
Funeral Services will be held at 9:00 A.M. on Monday, April 25, 2022, at the HCK West Building in rural Arthur, Illinois. Bishop Nelson B. Diener will officiate. Burial will be in the Otto Cemetery. Visitation will be any time after 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, April 23, 2022, at the HCK West Building and any time after 10:00 A.M. on Sunday, April 24, 2022, at the HCK West Building. The Edwards Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
Lisa was born on June 2, 1988, in Tuscola, Illinois. She is a daughter of Glen and Linda J. (Otto) Plank. She married Kenneth G. Kauffman on April 18, 2008, in Arcola, Illinois
Lisa is survived by her husband, Kenneth, six children, Janelle Diane, Lorinda Grace, Jordan K., Jason K., David K., and James K. all at home; her parents, Glen, and Linda J. (Otto) Plank; her paternal grandparents, Ira L. And Verna (Schrock) Plank; three siblings, Jason Plank Kevin G. Lisa was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Jerry Jr, and Anna Marie (Chupp) Otto, and one brother, Lavern Plank.
Lisa was a member of the Old Order Amish Church.
Lisa enjoyed sewing, but her greatest joy in life was being a loving wife to Kenneth, and a loving mom to her and Kenneth’s six children.
Kauffman, Lydia Mae Bontrager
January 25, 1932 - November 30, 2022
Lydia Mae (Bontrager) Kauffman, 90, passed away on Nov. 30 at Keysville Nursing Home in Keysville, Ga. She had resided on State Road 4 in Goshen for more than 60 years before moving to Georgia. She was born on Jan. 25, 1932, in Middlebury to John I. and Barbara (Miller) Bontrager, the youngest of 13 children. On Oct. 5, 1956, she married Joe A. Kauffman, who preceded her in death in 2014.
She was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers and six sisters.
Surviving are three sons, Gary (Jill), Evans, Ga.; Richard (Betsy), Nappanee; and Dennis (Pam), Rome City. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and step-grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren and step-grandchildren.
Lydia was raised in the Old Order Amish faith, but spent her adult years as a member of First Mennonite in Middlebury and Clinton Brick Mennonite in Millersburg. She was a very talented and crafty lady who enjoyed crocheting and making snowflake and angel Christmas tree ornaments for many of her family and friends. She was famous for her delicious chocolate chip cookies. She was a homemaker and after raising her children she worked cleaning houses for many years.
Visitation will be from 4:00 - 7:00 pm on Friday, December 9, at Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, 1003 South Main Street Middlebury. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, December 10, also at the funeral home. Services will be conducted by her son, Gary Kauffman, and Pastor Ron Kennel. Burial will be in Miller 8 Square Cemetery, Goshen. Memorials may be given to Hope Ministries.
Kauffman, Mabel Marie Yoder
December 18, 1927 - February 16, 2022
Mabel Marie Kauffman, 94, of New Paris, died Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at home peacefully with family at her side.
She was born December 18, 1927, in Honeyville to Tobias E. and Mattie (Christner) Yoder.
Mabel graduated from Eastern Mennonite High School, Harrisonburg, Virginia in 1946. She married Menno Kauffman at East Goshen Mennonite Church on February 12, 1949.
She lived with her husband, Menno, in the New Paris area for 41 years. She was a constant companion to her husband, on the farm and as a secretary of M&M Wood Shavings and Menno Kauffman Trucking. She was a member of Salem Mennonite Church.
Mabel is survived by her six children; three sons, Robert (Donna) Kauffman of Myerstown, Pennsylvania, Larry (Lavina) Kauffman of Stone Lake, Wisconsin and Richard (Stella) Kauffman of New Paris; three daughters, Shirley Kauffman of Stone Lake, Wisconsin, Cheryl (Ernest) Shaver of Phoenix, Arizona and Carol (Glen) Ramer of New Paris; 24 grandchildren and 49 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two brothers, Abraham and Alvin; five sisters, Jemima, Ina, Edith, Edna and Mary Jane and a great granddaughter, Emily Grace Kauffman.
Friends may call Sunday, February 20, 2022, from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Salem Mennonite Church Cabin and Monday, 9:30 until the 10:30 a.m., funeral service at Salem Mennonite Church.
Burial will follow in Salem Cemetery, New Paris

Kauffman, Titus F.
July 17, 1937 - May 22, 2022
Titus F. Kauffman, age 84, of New Holland, PA, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, May 22, 2022. He was the husband of Barbara Lapp Kauffman, with whom he celebrated 61 years of marriage. Born in Leacock Twp, son of the late Simeon & Sarah Fisher Kauffman,
Titus served 23 years as Lead Pastor of Alden Mennonite Church, Buffalo, NY, after which he earned his master's degree in Counseling. For the last 2 decades at Petra Church, Titus enjoyed his role as a counselor and Assistant Pastor of Care. He touched many lives as the Visitation Pastor, Marriage Enrichment Team Leader and, along with his wife, the Grief Share Group Leader. Titus also served as the chaplain for Garden Spot Fire Rescue. He enjoyed riding bike, woodworking, and most of all, spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren.
Surviving besides his beloved wife are 4 children: Scott Kauffman of Miramar, FL, Sara wife of Doug Colby of New Holland, Beth wife of Kevin Boll of New Holland, Amy Kauffman wife of John Freeborn of San Jose, CA, grandchildren, Devan (Kristen), Drew, Owen, David, Kaiya, and Cheyton, siblings: Fianna wife of the late J. Mast Blank of Gays Creek, KY, Albert husband of Dolly Stoltzfus Kauffman of Dundee, NY. He was preceded in death by his and Barb's daughter Gretchen, siblings: Delilah Swartzentruber, Arthur Kauffman, Elva Burkholder, and his first wife Leah Lapp Kauffman.
A celebration of life service will take place at Petra Church, 565 Airport Road, New Holland, on Saturday, May 28th at 11 a.m., with a greeting time from 10 a.m. until time of service. Service may be viewed via live stream at www.petra.church/live. There will also be a greeting time at the church on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. Interment will take place in the Petra Cemetery prior to the service. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to: Petra Church, with a designation to Lifesprings Counseling or Missions.
Kauffmann, Miriam Bertha
February 28, 1926 - October 11, 2022
Loving daughter, sister, cousin, aunt, and friend, Miriam Bertha Kauffmann passed away in her sleep, Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at her home at Greencroft, Goshen, after suffering from a broken hip.
Born on a farm in Minier, Illinois on February 28, 1926, Miriam was the only girl born to Alma Magdalena (Litwilller) Kauffmann (1901-2001) and John Kauffmann (1898-1982), except for a sister, Nadine, who died in infancy. She had one older brother, Ivan (Lola Good), and six younger brothers: Weldon (Marilyn Good), Warren (Maxine Litwiller), Merle, Floyd (Chiyo Sasaki), and Norman (Sharon Kennell). When asked, she always said that when a new baby was born, she would secretly wish for another brother, because, as she put it, they were "a lot of fun." She is survived by her sister-in-law, Lola, her brother Warren, her sister-in-law Maxine, her brother Norman, and her sister-in-law Sharon, as well as many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A pianist, Miriam pursued her interest in music from a young age, managing to convince her parents to get her a piano. She played classical music and also learned how to accompany singing, using her talent in many church services throughout her life and especially in her later years at Evergreen Place, Greencroft. She had a flair for languages as well, having studied Latin in high school and then French at Goshen College where she graduated with a BA in Education in 1948. After teaching French at Minier High School, she used her education background in Puerto Rico, spending 1955-1958 as a volunteer with Mennonite Voluntary Service, and 1960-1970 teaching at the Colegio Bautista de Carolina.
Returning to Illinois from Puerto Rico, Miriam pursued a Master's Degree in Library Science at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. After graduating in 1971, she got a job that same year at the Chicago Public Library, initially working at their bilingual (Spanish/English) information center and later in the Spanish language section. In Chicago, Miriam lived in the Pilsen neighborhood, attending the Iglesia Evangélica Menonita on 19th street. In 1985, five years before retiring from the library, she moved to the Austin neighborhood, where she lived in the upper flat of a brownstone owned by her brother Ivan, and joined the Oak Park Mennonite church.
After retiring from her work at the library in 1990, Miriam moved to Goshen, Indiana to be close to her family, including her mother Alma, her brothers Merle, Norman and Ivan and their families, as well her friends Karel Helisak and Marie Heliskova. In Goshen, Miriam worked at the Goshen College Library and also as a volunteer at Oak Lawn and in the library at Greencroft Manor II. She was a person of unwavering faith and will be missed. We will always remember her cheerfulness; her optimism; her pragmatism; her independent, helpful, and generous spirit; and her deep love for her family and friends. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, October 29 at the Metzler Chapel, Greencroft, Goshen. Donations in her memory may be made via check to the National Immigrant Justice Center, 224 S. April 19, 1935 - December 13, 2022
Jacob J. Keim, 87, of 6248 Salt Creek Rd., Fredericksburg, died Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2022 at his home surrounded by his family after a period of declining health.
He was born on April 19, 1935 in Holmes County to Jonas Jr. and Malinda (Yoder) Keim and married Effie Miller on Nov. 5, 1957. She preceded him in death on Nov. 13, 2014. He was a member of the Old Order Amish.
Surviving are his children, Erma (Perry) Mast of the home, Marilyn (David L.) Miller of Millersburg, Arie (Marlin) Yoder of New Philadelphia, Mary (Merle) Yoder of Sugarcreek, Wes (Karen) Keim of Wilmot, Aden (Ruth) Keim of Millersburg, Nettie (Enos L.) Miller of New Philadelphia, Abe (Amanda) Keim of Fredericksburg and Dennis Keim of Fredericksburg; 33 grandchildren, 65 great-grandchildren, 6 step-grandchildren, two step great-grandchildren, a sisters, Ada Garber, Linda Wallace and Sue (Jeff) Linder; brother, Jonas Keim Jr., brother-in-law, Delmar Haun and sisters-in-law, Lizzie Keim, Charlotte Keim and Lizzie Mast.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Effie; his parents, a grandchild, a great-grandchild, a step-grandchild, brothers, Aden, Roy and Wes Keim; sisters, Clara (Levi) Raber, Mattie (Daniel) Hershberger, Edna Haun, Elizabeth (Clarence) Fishburn, Ella (Delmar) Weimer, Mary Ann (Robert) Haven and Esta (John) Theis and brothers-in-law, Bill Wallace and John Garber.
Services will be Friday, Dec. 16th at 9:00 a.m. at the Perry Mast Residence with Bishop Abe Yoder officiating. Burial will be in the Yoder Cemetery, Salt Creek Township, Wayne County. Friends may call any time after 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the residence. Murray Funeral Home in Fredericksburg is handling arrangements. The family extends a special thanks to the staff of LifeCare Hospice for the care and support.
Kilmer, Clara Schwartz
December 31, 1938 - November 16, 2022
Clara Kilmer, 93, of Goshen, passed away Wednesday, November 16, 2022 at Majestic Care of Goshen.
She was born December 31, 1928 in Nappanee to Joseph and Emma (Miller) Schwartz.
On October 24, 1948 she married Sandford “Sandy” Kilmer. They were married for 67 years before he died on December 14, 2015.
Survivors include one son, Tim (Vanessa) Kilmer of Goshen; a daughter, Melody (Robert) Woodard, Fruitland Park, Florida; a son-in-law, Rittman, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren and three sisters, Esther Helmuth, Nora Weldy and Lora (Bill) Yoder all of Wakarusa.
Along with her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Jo Ella Troutman; a son, Phil Kilmer; a grandson, Anthony Kilmer; a great-granddaughter, Ava Grace and five siblings.
Clara was a member of Clinton Frame Mennonite Church since 1967 and part of the worship team. She worked at Everett’s for 25 years, owned and operated B & K Sales and Rental. She was a gifted yodeler and devoted wife and mother.
Friends may call Friday, November 18, 2022 from 5 to 8 and again from 9 to 10 Saturday morning at Clinton Frame Mennonite Church. A Saturday funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. at the church.
Burial will follow in Yellow Creek Cemetery, Goshen.

Kilmer, Ezra Z., Jr.

Ezra Z. Kilmer, Jr., 78, of Ephrata, passed away on Tuesday, June 28, 2022, at his residence of natural causes.
He was born in Farmersville to the late Ezra Z. and Ada (High) Kilmer and was the husband of the late Ella (Hoover) Kilmer.
He was a member of Groffdale Mennonite Church (Groffdale Conference).
A self-employed dairy farmer, he was also a member of the Farmersville Fire Co. for 53 years.
Ezra is survived by four daughters, Elsie, wife of Alvin Zimmerman of New Holland, Ada, wife of Steve Beiler of Lancaster, Edna Kilmer of Ephrata, Eva, wife of Nelson Fox of Memphis, MO; nine grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; a sister, Erma Frey of Mount Forrest, Canada; a brother-in-law, Clarence Martin of Middleburg, IN; a sister-in-law, Naomi Kilmer of Mifflinburg and a step-brother, Ephraim Kilmer of Pen Yan, NY.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his step-mother, Mary (Martin) Kilmer; a brother, Paul Kilmer; two sisters, Lena Martin, Edna May Kulp, and a step-brother, Floyd Kilmer.
A viewing will be held on Friday, July 1, 2022, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM at the late residence, 481 S. Farmersville Road, Ephrata. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2022, at 9:00 AM, at the late residence, with further services at 9:30 AM at the Groffdale Mennonite Church, 168 N. Groffdale Road, Leola, with Bishop Ammon Weaver officiating.
Interment will take place in the adjoining church cemetery.

Klink, Claramae Lehman
February 28, 1927 - April 21, 2022
Claramae Lehman Klink, 95, left this earth peacefully on Thursday, April 21, from Greencroft Healthcare.
She was born February 28, 1927, in Castorland, New York, to Samuel and Clara Kennel Lehman. She was the sixth child in a family of 13 children.
She attended Bethel College, Kansas, La Junta Mennonite School of Nursing, Colorado and graduated from Goshen College with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She earned her Master’s degree in School Nurse Teaching from Cortland State Teacher’s College, New York.
In June 1953 she married Charles Lee Klink on the Lehman family farm in Castorland, New York. They met at the FFA Camp Oswegatchie where she was the nurse and he was the maintenance man for the summer. They settled and raised their family in Gouverneur, New York, where they were both teachers. Charlie died in 1991. They were married 38 years. She took wonderful care of Charlie with his illness in the last two years of his life. Claramae moved to Goshen in 1992.
Claramae loved to travel. She attended many Mennonite World Conferences. With brothers and sisters, she visited India and China. In Germany and France, they traced their family roots. She went to Ethiopia to meet her adopted grandchildren. While raising their family they traveled to National Parks across the country as well as many trips to Florida, the west and the Outer Banks, North Carolina. She and Charlie constructed a family cabin themselves on Hickory Lake in northern New York that they both loved dearly that remains with the family today.
She loved to volunteer at Ten Thousand Villages in New York and Goshen, Oaklawn Auxiliary Board and Gift Shop, Goshen Hospice, Goshen College and Stephen Ministries. As a couple they were Voluntary Service House Parents in Homestead, Florida, where they worked with immigrant children and developmentally disabled adults.
Her hobbies were reading, walking and spending time at their family camp at Hickory Lake, New York. She was also part owner of the Lehman Lodge where her family still makes maple syrup.
Surviving are her children, Ann (Steve) Herendeen, Goshen, Dr. Chuck Klink, Richmond, Virginia and Dr. Paul (Kate) Klink, Chambersburg, Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Benjamin Herendeen, Dustin (Yibei) Nafziger, Leah (Eric) Blosser, Nathaniel (Jenna) Klink, Jessica Klink, Jersalem Klink, Daniel Klink, Isaiah Fleming-Klink, Rachaelann (Bryce) Yoder Klink and India Fleming-Klink; and great grandchildren, Noelle and Tyson Blosser. Also surviving are her siblings, Jim and Betsy Lehman, Gary and Alice Lehman and Jane Lehman, all of Goshen. Lyle Lehman and Robyn Scharoun, New York, Janice Lehman, Pennsylvania and Bernice and Dewey Hostetler, Dolores Wedel, and Evelyn Lehman, all of Kansas. She was preceded in death by a sister Ilene Adams and brothers, Ralph, Ken, Walter and Curt Lehman.
Claramae was a member of Waterford Mennonite Church and Bahia Vista Mennonite Church when she wintered in Florida. She will be remembered for her charity, smile, gratitude to others and sense of humor. The gift she gave to the world was to be a thankful person.
Claramae and Charlie instilled in their children that the purpose of education was to serve others. It is no coincidence that their children became an educator, a psychologist and a physician.
There will be a family memorial service at a later date.

John C. Knepp, 69, of Topeka, died at 4:50 pm on Friday, April 8, [2022] at his residence. He was born on June 17, 1952 in LaGrange County to Chris J. and Mary W. (Lambright) Knepp. On November 13, 1975 in LaGrange County, he married Katie Herschberger, she survives.
Survivors in addition to his wife are a son, Lonnie Ray (Laura) Knepp of LaGrange; a special family, the David Wengerd family of LaGrange; a step grandson, Michael Miller; step mother, Ella (Elva) Bontrager of Shipshewana; three sisters, Ada Mae (Wilbur) Fry of Topeka, Anna Marie Eash of Goshen, Edna Ellen (Stanley) Miller of Topeka; three brothers, William (Edith) Knepp of LaGrange, Enos (Mary Anna) Knepp of Millersburg, Christy Jr. (Irma) Knepp of LaGrange.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Melvin C. Knepp and Orva C. Knepp; a brother-in-law, Daniel Eash.
John had worked at PalletOne in Shipshewana for 30 years and was a member of the Old Order Amish Church.
Visitation will be after 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 9, and all day Sunday, April 10, at the family's residence, 1315 South State Rd. 5 Topeka. Funeral services will be at 9:30 am on Monday, April 11, also at the family’s residence. Services will be conducted by Bishop Vernon O. Lambright and the home ministers. Burial will be in Yoder Cemetery, Shipshewana.

Karol L. Knepp, 96, of Bristol, passed away peacefully at 11:00 am on Friday, August 26, at his residence. He was born on November 24, 1925 in Goshen, to Simon and Barbara (Bender) Knepp. On April 2, 1950 in Goshen he married Anna (Bontrager) Knepp, she survives.
Survivors in addition to his wife are daughter, Karen Wharton of Sarasota, FL; son, Ronald (Peggy) Knepp of Goshen; granddaughters, Stephanie Michel of Bristol and Carmen (Mike) McGraw of Goshen; step granddaughter, Tanya (Scott) Miller of Goshen; three step grandsons, Steve (Pam) Vail of Millersburg, Doug Vail of Goshen, and Rick Vail of Newport News, VA; five great-grandchildren, 12 step great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lamar Knepp of Ocala, Fl and Simon (Karen) Knepp, Jr of Sarasota, Fl.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lester and Wilbur Knepp; and a grandson-in-law, John Michel.
Karol lived to be a farmer, whether it was in the field or landscaping his back yard, he loved to take care of his land. As a young man he worked in construction and at Globemaster in Goshen. He enjoyed wintering in Florida with his family and studying his family’s genealogy. He was always cheerful, cared deeply for others, and showed patience in every circumstance.
Visitation will be from 5:00 - 8:00 pm on Tuesday, August 30, at Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, 1003 South Main Street Middlebury. There will also be one hour of visitation prior to the 11:00 funeral service on Wednesday, August 31, also at the funeral home. Burial will be in Clinton Union Cemetery, Goshen. Memorials may be given to Faith Mission, Elkhart.

Orva C. Knepp, 63, of LaGrange, died at 7:45 am on Wednesday, March 9, [2022] at Life Care Center, LaGrange. He was born on January 23, 1959, in LaGrange to Chris J. and Mary W. (Lambright) Knepp.
Surviving are three sisters, Ada Mae (Wilbur) Fry of Topeka, Anna Marie Eash of LaGrange, Edna Ellen (Stanley) Miller of Topeka; four brothers, John (Katie) Knepp of Topeka, William (Edith) Knepp of LaGrange, Enos (Mary Anna) Knepp of Millersburg, Christy Jr. (Irma) Knepp of LaGrange; many nieces and nephews; stepmother, Ella (Elva) Bontrager of Shipshewana.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Melvin C. Knepp; brother-in-law, Daniel Eash. Orva worked at Pallet One for several years. He also worked at the Blue Gate Restaurant in Shipshewana as a dishwasher for over 15 years and was a member of the Old Order Amish Church.
Visitation will be after 2:00 pm on Thursday, March 10, and all day Friday, March 11, at the Christy Jr. Knepp residence, 1275 S. 375 W., LaGrange. Funeral services will be at 9:30 am on Saturday, March 12, at the residence. Services will be conducted by Bishop Richard H. Bontrager and the home ministers. Knicely, Raymond Frederick

Raymond Frederick Knicely, 82, of Bonners Ferry, ID, passed away peacefully, Saturday evening, August 13, 2022.
Raymond was born on October 21, 1939 in Rockingham County, VA and was a son of the late Dewitt Pierce and Alda Craun (Shank) Knicely. He was a lifelong farmer, operating a dairy and poultry farm in Weyers Cave, VA and later a beef cow operation in Rustburg, VA.
On December 18, 1971 he married Barbara Byler from Seymour, MO who survives him. They celebrated their 50th anniversary last December. Also surviving are their children, Fred Knicely and wife Regina of Linville, VA, Dorcas Yoder and husband Norman of Moyie Springs, ID, Kristina Yoder and husband Ivan of Council, ID, Eric Knicely and wife Cheryl of Bonners Ferry, and Ray Knicely also of Bonners Ferry; 26 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter; siblings, Charles Knicely and wife Susie, Anna Lee Knicely, Frank Knicely and wife Alice, Daniel Knicely and wife Becky; sister-in-law, Martha Knicely; and a brother-in-law Byard Showalter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, James and Lowell; a sister, Margaret Showalter; and a sister-in-law, Mildred Knicely, wife of Lowell.
Raymond was a member of the Kootenai Valley Mennonite Church in Bonners Ferry. A visitation service will be held Wednesday, August 17, 2022 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Kootenai Valley Mennonite Church. The Funeral Service will be held there on Thursday, August 18, 2022 at 9:30 AM. Burial will follow in the Church cemetery.
Krahn, Bernhard W. "Ben"
January 12, 1929 - July 16, 2022
Bernhard "Ben" W. Krahn, 93, Elkhart, died peacefully at 4:54 a.m. Saturday, July 16, 2022, at Hubbard Hill Estates.
He was born Jan. 12, 1929, in Altona, Manitoba, Canada, to Abram and Anna (Wiebe) Krahn. On Aug. 26, 1956, he married Shirley (Unruh) Krahn. They were married for nearly 66 years.
Surviving are his wife, Shirley, Elkhart; three sons, Kevin (Loretta) Krahn of St. Peters, Minnesota, Darren (Sandi) Krahn, Peoria, Illinois, and Brian (Stacy) Krahn, Mishawaka; eight grandchildren, Alex, Natalia, Nik, Taylor Ann, Adam, Stuart, Ian and Sophie; and four great-grandchildren, Keegan, Adelaide, Emmett and Kyra.
Preceding him in death are his parents and six siblings.
Ben graduated from Goshen College and Princeton Theological Seminary. He was a pastor and hospital/prison chaplain. In the 1970s he studied at Sangamon State University in Illinois and subsequently practiced as a school psychologist with Tri County Special Education in McLean County, Illinois, until his retirement. Ben loved people, and he had a heart for serving in all his work. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a member of Prairie Street Mennonite Church, Elkhart.
Visitation will be 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 30, with a funeral service following at 3 p.m., all at Rieth Rohrer Ehret Lienhart Funeral Home, 117 W. Waterford St., Wakarusa. Chaplain Tim Henke will officiate. Memorial donations may be directed to Mennonite Disaster Service.
Krall, John Harry
August 20, 1933 - January 19, 2022
John Harry Krall, 88, a resident of Harrisonburg, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2022, at Woodland Park of VMRC.
John Harry Krall was born to the late Elizabeth Ruth Charles Krall and Carl Sumpman Krall of Mount Joy, Pa., on Aug. 20, 1933. He resided in the same house on Market Street from birth until he left home for Eastern Mennonite College in 1951.
John attended Mount Joy School for his elementary, middle and high school education. The longtime principal told his mother that he would wait to ring the morning school bell until he saw John running up the alley.
Before attending EMC, John worked at the Rev. Henry F. Garber farm in Mt. Joy. He worked for Henry and his son, Robert during the summer months for several years. His parents wanted him involved constructively and were also happy for John to have a relationship with respected pastors.
John received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Secondary Education from Eastern Mennonite College, now Eastern Mennonite University, in 1955. During college John sang with the EMC men’s chorus as well as the touring choir. After graduation John became the director of the Mennonite Voluntary Service Unit in Iowa City, Iowa as his alternative to military service. He served in this capacity from August 1955-August 1957. John also worked as an orderly at the handicapped school which was a part of the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City.
In August 1957, John married Naomi Moyer from Hatfield, Pa., and began his teaching career at Iowa Mennonite School. During his three-year tenure at IMS he served as teacher, principal and assistant principal.
In 1961, John accepted a position to teach social studies at Eastern Mennonite High School in Harrisonburg, Va. John received his Master of Arts in Education degree from then Madison College, now James Madison University, in 1963. John was elected fourth director of EMHS in 1964 and had the challenging privilege of moving the school to its brand-new facility on Park Road.
In 1969, John was invited to become an instructor in the EMC School of Education program for the 1969-70 school year. John continued to teach at EMC until September 1976 when he suffered a massive stroke.
John’s stroke caused total paralysis on the right side of his body and total aphasia. John began endless hours, days, weeks and years of rehabilitation of his body and the relearning of the simplest of tasks. His mother moved from Pennsylvania to reteach John the alphabet and other elementary skills. With his fierce determination and hard work, John was able to gain almost one hundred percent of his physical mobility during the first year. However, the damage to his left brain was so severe that even 25+ years of speech therapy did not correct the severe aphasia syndrome.
To his great disappointment John never completed the work for his Doctoral degree at the University of Virginia. Even more disappointing to him was his inability to return to his chosen career of teaching. He was, however, able to work in the Sadie Hartzler Library for more than 20 years. He also served as one of the Park View Mennonite Church custodians for many years.
John will always be remembered for his dry sense of humor and his determination to overcome the obstacles he faced. John’s skills in communication with people across the age spectrum and his, albeit short, incredibly successful teaching career and effective school administration tenure will add to John’s education legacy. John served his Lord in many capacities as a lay person early in his life and in his limited way professed his love for God and the church his entire life.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by an older brother, Carl Richard Krall and his wife, Jean Hostetler Krall. In addition to his wife, John is survived by his children, John Brian (Dawn Shifflett) Harrisonburg, Va.; daughter, Beth, Harrisonburg and son, Bruce (Christa Gitchell) Broadway Va.; his grandchildren, Tiara Coleman, Harrisonburg, Corbin Krall, Harrisonburg and Keenan Krall, Broadway, as well as his great-grandchildren, LaMya Coleman Will and Jayden Will, both of Harrisonburg. John is also survived by a sister, Ruth Elizabeth Krall, Tucson, Ariz.
A memorial service will be held at Park View Mennonite Church on Sunday, Feb. 6, 2022, at 3 p.m. The service may be viewed online by visiting pvmchurch.org/johnkrall. Masks will be required to attend the service.

Kreider, Jan Frederick
December 11, 1942 - January 24, 2022
Jan Frederick Kreider died at his home in Boulder, Colorado, on January 24, 2022, at the age of 79. He was born on December 11, 1942, in Portland, Oregon, to parents Charles Steiner Kreider and Lois Yoder Kreider, and was the grandson of Edward Z and Alice Troyer Yoder of Hubbard, Oregon, and Henry R. Kreider and Clara Steiner Kreider of Wadsworth, Ohio.
Jan lived most of his early life in Wadsworth, Ohio, where he excelled in academic work at Wadsworth Senior High School. Upon graduation, he received a full scholarship to Case Institute of Technology, from which he was graduated magna cum laude with a degree in mechanical engineering. Jan pursued graduate work at the University of Colorado Boulder, where he completed both MS (1968) and PhD (1973) degrees in mechanical and chemical engineering, respectively. Jan’s love of the Great American West kept him in Boulder for the rest of his life. He also traveled extensively throughout the western United States and the world as he pursued professional interests in solar applications for residential and institutional buildings and the use of alternative fuel systems for vehicles.
Jan taught at UC Boulder from 1976 until he retired in 1996 as professor emeritus. He was Founding Director of the Joint Center for Energy Management in the Department of Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering at UC Boulder from 1986 to 1996, and the recipient of numerous academic and professional awards. He authored or co-authored more than 200 articles and 12 books on solar and related applications. In 1992, Jan and his wife spent six months living in France while Jan was a guest professor at the Ecole de Mines in Paris. That was followed by six months on the Lago Maggiore as a visiting professor at the Joint Research Center (JRC) — Ispra, Italy. The time in Italy confirmed Jan as an Italophile, and he carried his love of Italian cars, wine, and food throughout his life. After his retirement from academia, Jan continued high-level consulting work on the uses of alternative energy and fuel sources for companies such as Toyota. He also donated his time and considerable expertise to projects such as working with the World Wildlife Fund and with the government of Ecuador to preserve the sensitive and unique environment of the Galapagos Islands.
Outside of his professional life, Jan hiked, biked, skied, climbed, and drove at top speed throughout the west. Farther. Faster. Higher. Always pursuing the best. His love of fast cars is legendary, and he liked nothing better than to roll up his sleeves and spend hours working on his latest classic car acquisition. Jan is also remembered fondly by those who knew him in a family context and who received his generosity in both time and treasure. He spent many hours with grandchildren helping with science projects and math studies. Modding off-road Toyotas with grandson Jordan was a hobby that spanned years, and he was very supportive of grandchildren Colin and Courteney after the deaths of their parents.
Jan is survived by his wife Dorothy (Dottie) Lang Kreider, her daughter, Valerie Mesch and husband, Gary Mesch, and her grandchildren, Jordan, Ethan, and Kenzie Mesch. Also from Dorothy’s family are grandchildren Colin and Courteney Schwander, children of Dorothy’s deceased daughter Colleen. Immediate family surviving are brother Gerald and wife Karen Kreider and their daughters, Katherine B. Minielly and Emily N. Kreider. Jan’s sister, Susan (b. 10/11/1946; d. 1/7/1952), predeceased him.
Kreider, Kenneth L.
July 18, 1947 - August 12, 2022
Kenneth L. Kreider, 75, of Manheim, passed away unexpectedly from a farming accident in Potter County, on Friday, August 12, 2022. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Elvin N. and Mabel L. Hackman Kreider. Ken was the loving husband of Violet "Posie" Weaver Kreider, and they observed their 52nd wedding anniversary in June of this year.
Ken was a 3rd-generation co-owner of excavation and paving contractor B.R. Kreider & Son, Manheim, along with his two siblings Jim Kreider and Carol Buchen, where he served as CEO until 2009 and retired in 2015. Today, B.R. Kreider & Son operates throughout central PA and employs more than 220 people. In his early years from 1966 through 1968 Ken worked in alternative service at St. Peters Hospital in Albany, New York.
Ken was a generous and genuine leader throughout his life who was always willing to help and care for others. A faithful and active member of Forest Hills Mennonite Church, Leola, Ken served as chairman of the property committee for 25 years; and was a volunteer for Mennonite Disaster Relief Service. Ken served on the following advisory boards: Habitat for Humanity, Lancaster YMCA, Camp Shand, and Fulton Bank. He also served as president of Inter-County Contractors Association. Ken lived a full and active life, whose interests included: hunting, fishing, golf, cars, snowmobiling, farming, and spending time at the family's cabin in Potter County. Ken had a deep passion for his family and cherished all the time he could spend with his wife, children, and grandchildren.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Posie, are three sons: Brent R. husband of Kristin Kreider of Lititz, Bradley J. husband of Bradi Kreider of Byron Center, MI, K. Scott Kreider of Lancaster, five grandchildren: Benjamin R. husband of Kati Kreider, Alissa Kreider, Raegan Kreider, Sydney Kreider, Molly Kreider, two brothers: Ronald E. Kreider of Mount Joy, James E. husband of Linda Kreider of Manheim, and a sister, Carol Ann wife of Burnell Buchen of Lititz.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Ken's Life Celebration Service at Forest Hills Mennonite Church, 100 Quarry Road, Leola, on Saturday, August 20, 2022 at 11:30 AM. Friends may visit with the family at the church on Friday evening August 19, 2022 from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM with additional visitation at the church on Saturday morning from 10:30 AM until the time of the service. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family in East Petersburg Mennonite Cemetery.

Norma J. Kropf, 83 of Deer Grove died Sunday, May 15, 2022 at her home surrounded by family. She was born on June 8, 1938 in Henry County, Illinois the daughter of Joseph S. and Alice Kropf.
She is survived by four brothers: Eugene Kropf of Nelson, MO, Marvin Kropf of Smithton, MO, Lester Kropf, and LaVern Kropf both of Tampico; one sister Sharon Hostetler of Deer Grove; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers: Willis and Willard Kropf (twins) of Berryville, AR, and Maynard Kropf of Deer Grove; and one sister Doris Headings of Berryville, AR;

He is survived by four brothers, Jerry Kuhns of Arthur, IL, Harvey Kuhns of Tuscola, IL, Abe Kuhns and his wife Dorothy of Arthur, IL and Omer Kuhns and his wife Barbara of Sullivan, IL, one sister, Mary Miller of Arthur, IL and one sister-in-law, Georgia Kuhns and her husband Charles Martin of Fort Wayne, IN, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Menno Kuhns and his wife Esther and Levi Kuhns, one sister, Anna Kauffman and her husband Edward, three sisters-in-law, Ann Kuhns, Verna Kuhns and Verna D. Kuhns and several nieces and nephews.
Henry was a member of the Old Order Amish Church.

Katy Elizabeth Kuhns, age 3 ½ weeks old, of Nappanee, passed away at 3:01 a.m, Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at her residence. She was born November 26, 2022 in Nappanee to Maynard and Rosa (Hochstetler) Kuhns. Her parents are members of the Old Order Amish Church.
Surviving are her parents; grandparents, Alton & Treva Kuhns, Etna Green and Dale and Esther Hochstetler, Nappanee; great-grandparents, Eli Kuhns, Etna Green and John Henry and Rosanna Borkholder, Nappanee.
She was preceded in death by an uncle, Simon Hochstetler.
Family and friends may call after 10 a.m., Thursday, December 22, 2022 at the family residence (7057 W. 900 N., Nappanee, IN). Funeral services will begin at 9:30 a.m., Friday, December 23rd also at the family residence. Home Ministry of the Old Order Amish Church will officiate. Burial will be in Graber Cemetery. Arrangements are with Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee.
Kuhns, Rachel L. Nussbaum
October 5, 1943 - December 6 2022
Rachel L. Kuhns, 79, of Kidron, departed from this life peacefully on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 at her home following a period of declining health with cancer.
She was born near Kidron in 1943, the daughter of Harvey J. and Martha E. (Amstutz) Nussbaum. She married David L. Kuhns on May 11, 1963. He died on January 13, 2022.
She enjoyed many activities and many people, being most thankful for her faith in God, her children, and family. She was a member of Longenecker Evangelical Anabaptist Fellowship (formerly Longenecker Mennonite Church) for over 50 years.
Surviving are four children, Kenneth (Jennifer), Patricia (Clark) Willems, Karl (Lisa), and Leroy (Amy); 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Carolyn (Roman) Hostetler, Marcella Wengerd, and Barb Hostetler; a brother, Roger (Cheryl) Nussbaum; and many extended family members.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by in-laws, Levi L. and Elma Kuhns, two grandchildren, one great-grandchild, a sister, Ruth (Ervin) Hershberger, a brother, Chester (Doris) Nussbaum, and a sister-in-law, Iva (Albert) Yoder.
Services will be held on Monday, December 12, 2022 at 11:00 am at Longenecker Evangelical Anabaptist Fellowship, 2200 Township Road 606, Dundee (near Winesburg) with Pastor Jeff Bargerstock officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday, December 11 from 2:00-5:00 pm at the church. Spidell Funeral Home in Mount Eaton is handling arrangements.

Rosetta Kuhns, age 61 of Plymouth, IN, died at 12:30 am on Friday, October 21, 2022 at her residence. She was born on October 16, 1961 in Kosciusko County, IN to Roman L. and Martha (Plank) Kuhns. Ms. Kuhns was a member of the Old Order Amish Church.
Surviving are 4 brothers: Ivan Ray (Norma) Kuhns of Bremen, IN, Levi Jay (Mary) Kuhns of Shipshewana, IN, LaMar (Lorene) Kuhns of Bremen, and Homer (Clara) Kuhns of Plymouth; 3 sisters: Lorene Borkholder of Middlebury, IN, Carol (Paul) Graber of Argos, and Freida (Keith) Abbott of Sheridan, IL; a brother-in-law, Devon Schwartz of Etna Green, IN; and 43 nieces and nephews.
Rosetta was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Esther Schwartz; and a brother-in-law, Darrell Borkholder.
Visitation will be held after 2 pm on Saturday, October 22, 2022 and all-day Sunday, October 23, 2022 at the Homer Kuhns residence (6838 6A Road, Plymouth, IN 46563). Funeral services will be held at 9:30 am on Monday, October 24, 2022 at the Homer Kuhns residence. Bishop Floyd Borkholder and the Home Ministry of the Old Order Amish Church will officiate and burial will follow at Weldy Cemetery, Nappanee, IN.
Kurtz, Eva Fern Bontrager
March 6, 1954 - June 14, 2022
Eva Fern Kurtz, 68, of Middlebury, passed away at 1:10 pm on Tuesday, June 14, [2022] while surrounded by her family, at her residence. She had been in declining health for over a year while battling cancer. She was born on March 6, 1954 in Elgin, IL, to Levi H. and Fannie (Chupp) Bontrager. On May 24, 1986 in Goshen, she married Tom E. Kurtz, he survives.
Survivors in addition to her husband are two daughters, Kelly (Lynn) Bowen of Middlebury, Lindsey (Fiancé Michael Weaver) Kurtz of Middlebury; two grandchildren, Jeffery and Selena; mother, Fannie (Glenn) Nisly of Middlebury; sister, Dorothy (Lee) Bontrager of Middlebury; two brothers, Ken (Liz) Bontrager of Goshen, Steve Bontrager of Middlebury.
She was preceded in death by her father and an infant sister, Joan Bontrager.
Eva worked as a massage therapist for 32 years and was also an Amish taxi driver. She loved being with her family and friends, making people laugh, crafting, reading, and cooking. She loved others well, had a generous heart, and a passionate love for Jesus. She was an active member at the First Mennonite Church, Middlebury.
Visitation will be from 1:00 - 5:00 pm on Sunday, June 19, at Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, 1003 South Main Street Middlebury. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the 10:00 am funeral service on Monday, June 20, at First Mennonite Church, Middlebury. Services will be conducted by Pastor Phil Yoder and Pastor Tim Eash. Burial will be in Grace Lawn Cemetery, Middlebury. Memorials may be given to Water for Life.
